Leather that earns its years.
Most “leather” sofas are a thin, printed skin over foam. Ours is full-grain hide, built by hand to outlast the room. Talk to a specialist about the right piece and hide for you.

Thirty full-grain hides. One is yours.
From caramel to black, every hide is full-grain and made to order. Book a call and a specialist helps you choose.
The word hides three very different things.
The same label covers the best hide you can buy and the worst. This is the difference between a piece you hand down and one you replace.
Full-grain
The whole top of the hide, left as it grew. The tightest, strongest fibre there is, dyed right through so a scuff buffs out. The only leather that develops a patina.
Top-grain, corrected
The surface is sanded smooth, then a fake grain is printed and sealed on top. Uniform and cheaper, but the coating wears, cracks and peels. It cannot patina.
Bonded “leather”
Leftover scraps ground to a pulp, glued to a fabric backing and sprayed to look like hide. Often under 20% leather, sold as the real thing.

Built by hand, to order, for you.
Full-grain hide, drum-dyed
Whole hides, chosen by hand for the seat panels and coloured right through the leather, not painted on the surface.
Kiln-dried hardwood frame
Jointed, glued and hand-built with tied webbing and springs. No particle board, no staples into chipboard. A frame you reupholster, not replace.
Hand-finished, made to order
Deep buttons pulled and tied, seams stitched and nail-head trim set by hand. Nothing sits in a warehouse. Yours is built in 12–14 weeks.
Full-grain pieces, in every hide.

The scratches are the point.
Corrected and bonded leather is at its best the day it arrives, then goes downhill. Full-grain is the opposite. Light, oils and years of use pull the colour deeper and rub the surface to a soft sheen. What looks like wear on a cheaper hide reads as character on this one.

Common questions
Is it real leather?
Yes, and only the best grade of it. Every Rumpus piece is upholstered in full-grain leather, the top layer of the hide left intact. We never use corrected top-grain or bonded leather, the coated and glued materials most “leather” sofas are actually made from.
How long does it take to make?
Every piece is made to order in the hide you choose, so allow 12–14 weeks. Nothing is pulled off a warehouse shelf, which is exactly why it lasts.
Can I see the colours before I buy?
Yes. Book a call and a specialist will talk you through the hides and can send photographs of the exact leather in natural light, so you can see how it reads before you commit.
What about delivery, and does it come assembled?
Your piece arrives fully built and ready to use, delivered across Australia. Book a call and a specialist will confirm timing for your postcode.
Will it really last?
The frame is kiln-dried hardwood, built to be reupholstered rather than thrown out, and full-grain leather only improves with age. It’s made to be the last leather lounge you buy.
